I'm from New Zealand, and something I've noticed since starting to plan my wedding in Canada is that quite a few people seem to be choosing eternity rings as their wedding ring.
My grandmother had her engagement ring (four amethysts in a row across a yellow gold band, surrounded by smaller diamonds), wedding band (a simple yellow gold band), and her eternity ring (similar to the engagement ring, but smaller and thinner).
I was wondering what the tradition behind eternity rings are? I'm guessing from the name that you get one once you've been married for some time at least... but in that case why are they so popular as wedding bands these days?

| I'm not sure about the "tradition" part, but doesn't getting married imply that you'll be together for eternity? Then again, I'm biased it's my engagement ring!

| I did a google and found this.. Like wedding rings, eternity rings are a symbol of everlasting love. Although eternity rings are frequently given to celebrate an anniversary or other special event such as the birth of a child, there is no precise occasion for which to give this exceptional gift. Given as a tangible symbol of the promise to love forever, an eternity ring is a beautiful way to show the love of your life how much she means to you.

Thank you!
That clears it up (^_^)
I must say, I like the idea of getting a symbol of my husband's love after we have a baby or something big like that. I will stick to a simple wedding band for the wedding!

I think it is also a personal decision that people make for what type of ring they want for their wedding band. I know that I hated the look of an all gold band with my ering. It wasn't my style and it was a personal choice that I made to get a semi-eternity band. Good luck making your decision.

| With my first marriage I did receive the anniversary ring after the birth of our first child... This time around... there will be no more kids being born so I'm hoping to get the anniversary ring on our first anniversary... The anniversary ring is the same as my wedding band .. so it ends up being wedding band, e-ring, anniversary band.. soldered together to...

anaksa (2/18/2008) I'm not sure about the "tradition" part, but doesn't getting married imply that you'll be together for eternity? Then again, I'm biased it's my engagement ring!Really?? What does yours look like? Me too!! Love mine. What are you/did you do for a wedding band? We got married in May and I got one of the Cartier trinity bands which I wear separately. NOTHING looked good with my eternity band...

I just loved the look of it together with my solitaire --- clean lines, classic cut, timeless.
As for the Cartier ring --- I LOVEthat ring --- DH has promised that will be our 5th anniversary or 1st born baby gift, whichever comes first!
Great taste, Sarah!
