I think Cuba is the most reasonable if you are looking at a tropical vacation....you could also book last minute to get some deals if you dont care where you go

We went to Cuba and had such a great time. Everyone was so nice and the resort was beautiful. You should check out www.tripcentral.ca This is the site that my DH and I booked our vacation from. Very reasonable and it's a canadian site, so the price that you are quoted is in CDN dollars and there is a number to call if you have any questions.

You don't have to take a tropical vacation for your honeymoon, my FiancĂ© and I live in Ottawa and are just hopping a flight over to Toronto for our honeymoon, durring the summer months you have 2 theme parks, a water park, a zoo, and several tourist areas for fun stuff to do and all year round there are museums, theaters and shops to check out.  They also have the Hockey Hall of Fame for the hubby.  The prices of hotels is reasonable if you stay just outside of downtown city limits and they have different festivals all year long.

If you want to save some cash, try someplace close that local businessmen travel to often.  This would mean that you would have access to commuter flights which run more often, Ottawa to Toronto runs once an hour 24-hours a day which makes the flight cheaper.

You don't really have to leave Canada to have a great vacation.  If you are on the west coast, you could vacation in Edmonton and take in the sights there, since I believe that the Calgary Stampede is in June, so maybe you would get a deal as most travel to Alberta at that time would be to a different city making Edmonton pretty quiet.

Alaskan cruises are beautiful and plentiful in your area and since you don't need to fly to get to the boat it saves you money there.  A cruise is also a good idea on a budget because your every meal and most of your entertainment is right on board and included in the price.  There are hundreds of cruises leaving Vancouver in the summer and you could get a room on board (double occupancy which is obviously not a problem) for as little as $750 per person - and keep in mind that food and entertainment is included.  The only expense after that is whatever you buy off-ship.

Try looking a bit closer to home for a wonderful vacation and any money you save will make for a nice start to your nest egg for your future together.

We had heard that Cuba is one of the more expensive places to go, but I'm not sure 100%. That's just what we had heard and the prices we found online reflected that.

If you want a tropical vacation, I'd highly recommend booking last minute... not like the day before or stand-by, but somewhere less than 6 weeks out. We went to the Mayan Riviera, there are hundreds of resorts there and we had a real bugger of a time choosing. We finally settled on the H10 Hacienda Maya for a 1 week all inclusive. We had spoken to a travel agent and this resort came highly recommended, it is 4 stars + (depending on who you talk to). When we spoke to the agent, she quoted us (through AMA) at $2700 + taxes per person, including our flight, resort & transportation to & from the resort from the airport. We booked it direct through Nolitours (a Canadian company) about 3 weeks before we left at $2700 TOTAL, for both of us!

I'm not sure what your budget is, but I'd highly recommend going to some of the "discount" vacation places online and searching for "last minute" or "bargain" trips in your budget. You may pick a resort specifically or just an area you want to go to, depending on what you find. Then wait & watch for similar sales closer to your departure date, and book them then.

If you're really tight on money, consider a few options:
- Vacations at the beginning of September tend to be less expensive (kids going back to school everywhere, so tourism drops drastically),
- In most of the central american countries, rainy season starts in October, and travel there is usually cheaper during rainy season (check the weather for the area you're considering)
- Consider a honeymoon registry instead of a "regular" registry if you already live together or have enough stuff. Or add it to your "regular" registry for an alternate for people who don't want to get you towels. Most travel agencies will set this up for you, but do your research first and choose a travel agency based on the resorts that they can book into - not all agents can book to all resorts.
- Delaying your "big" honeymoon until you can afford it isn't really that big of a deal. Take a weekend away from your home, camping or staying with relatives outside of your hometown. Or find a B&B that's only an hour or two away and book into that for a few days. Figure out where you want to go for your "big" honeymoon, approximately how much it'll cost, and how long it'll take you to save for it. Even if you put away $100 a month each, it won't take too long to save up for something bigger.

Hope that helps. PM me if you want a link to any of the discount places we browsed through or to Nolitours directly.
