| My fiance and I are planning to go down to Cuba next January to get married, I am thinking probably Varadero. We are going to get married in Canada the day before we leave by a marriage commisionier, so we dont have to worry about all the legal paperwork in Cuba. Would it be possible to book the hotel now, as far as the wedding goes, and then book the flights/hotel stay just before Christmas? Its probably just my fiance and I going, maybe a few friends that will book on the last minute flights, so as far as paying for the wedding goes, I was thinking $1000 over and above us staying there. Is that reasonable? Is it possible to book the wedding part at the hotel now, and then wait till prices come out for the fall for booking the flight/ hotel?

| Most resorts will not confirm any wedding dates/times until you are booked. You probably will have to contact each resort you are thinking of and ask them. You would hate to get a surprise and then have things cancelled on you!!! Keep in mind too they work on island time and can be veeeery slow at getting back to you. I'd say, it such a big day, I wouldn't risk it and book early to avoid disappointment! Good luck!

We weren't married in Cuba, it was Puna Cana but we booked the wedding date before booking the hotel as it was June and the flights weren't established yet for December. We didn't actually book the hotel until September and it was no problem, so yes, check with the particular hotel. Our symbolic ceremony (which is what you will be doing) was included in the price of the hotel, we didn't have to pay any extra for it, so something else to check into.

| Actually, I always recommend that you reserve your wedding date with the resort FIRST before booking your travel. Any resorts that I've dealt with will book your date without having booking your travel, no problem. The issue right now is alot of resorts haven't opened their 2010 Wedding Date reservations yet, BUT they will take a request for a certain date and then confirm when the books are opened.

I would call the resort ou are interested in. We are getting married in Cuba and I tried to reserve my date but they would not so until I had booked. All they would tell me was there was plenty of availability.
Things I've done.....resort, and date booked; guys wedding attire purchased; photographer booked; everything for BUT DRESS!!!

Congratulations on your upcoming destination wedding!
We are getting married January 2010 in the Mayan Riviera. We actually emailed the wedding coordinator (which we met with last January at the resort) and they reserved a spot for the actual ceremony. We didn't have to put a deposit down or anything. I was worried since we didn't put any money down but the rates weren't even out yet so we can't book for January until next week. But all the other information we provided to them over email like flowers, decor, restaurant choice, ceremony location, names of bride and groom and witnesses...the only thing they knew was coming later are names of guests.
Everyone I have talked to about a destination wedding has done everything over email and said it was flawless!
Best of luck!
