Ah yes, that is the best part. Both appraisers had the exact same specs on the diamond. They all commented on how beautiful it was, yada yada yada and then showed us the number. Like I said before, I'm really hoping this was all a big mix up and that everything works out in the end. It just makes your heart sink when you hear that their taking back what they initially said and, at this point, you're SOL

Try going to Spend Diamonds. They have been great with everything we have bought from them and I believe they do make custom jewelry as well. Just take a photo and they should be able to do it. They're prices are very reasonable.

| No, I went through a personal jeweller of my moms (big mistake)...anyway....my ring is in platinum...which causes a lot of problems financially, when they want a thousand more dollars for any WB you pick, because it is custom made in platinum.....grrrrr. I was wondering, because the lady at Birks in Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga Ontario is sucha sweet lady and was really nice to me when I told her what happened with my e-ring, and she cleaned it and made me cry because it looked so much better than when my FH first gave it to me.

If it helps, my FH had my ring appraised at Diamani's in Woodbridge (http://www.damianijewellers.com/). They were amazing; incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He talked to my FH for an hour about diamonds and the ring, the characteristics etc. I then went in to have it cleaned (it's platinum so it scratches terribly), and he had me and FH in the backroom with him to show us how he cleans it, how to clean it myself, showed my the diamond under the magnifying glass etc. I'd highly recommend them, if you're looking for great service. Good luck, hopefully it will work out with your ring at Birks.

| At this point I think we're just waiting things out. My ring is platinum as well so I completely understand the marking! As for going to someone independent for something unique, I thought about it before but as soon as I saw this ring, I knew it was the one. It is exactly my style with a nice shiny band and a perfect diamond, literally! FH knows I like the best of the best and he went out and got it for me haha If things do end up worse case, I will be finding someone to replicate it. I just love it. Up until this point, the customer service we have received there has been wonderful. I bought a watch there for FH before christmas and everytime we go in they know us and our names, but they should considering how much money we apparently like to spend there lol I really appreciate all of the suggestions from everyone, its so nice to be able to hear from other people who have been through the same stress/just understand where its coming from.

| I went to Birks at Bay/Bloor to look at rings but FH and I did not get a good vibe from them at all. The lady that was helping us kept trying the rings on to show us how they looked and I was like, "ummm, shouldn't I be trying the ring on??" Plus, they seemed to be a lot more expensive than the other store I wanted my ring from anyways. So we went down to the street to the other store I wanted my ring from and we dealt with a guy who was absolutely wonderful and made us feel so welcome everytime we went in. I was super happy with their service. I'm sorry that you're having a tough time with Birks. It sucks when what is really the first part of the wedding experience is crappy

I know that Birks is a "high end" store most people think, but if you were to look around there are better out there. When I say go to an exclusive shop you will likely find a higher quality product for a better price than Birks made my Europeans. I'm talking about going to an exclusive store that is into selling high-end products: Rolex, Bulgari, Casa Gi, Henrich & Denzel, Omega, etc. What we went to was not a ma & pa shop. What we went to was the best store in our area and it is known as such. What Birks sells is not the best.

My FH and I went into Birks and I found the best ring and I LOVED it - however it was about $4000 over what my FH wanted to pay. On advice from my parents (and knowing about Birks markup) he took a picture of the ring and the specs to a goldsmith and had it made for me! The kicker - he upgraded the diamonds and it was still $3000 LESS then the Birks ring!! My suggestion - take the ring back and shop around - you will get a better deal! The goldsmith even lowered the setting for me because I didn't want the middle diamond to be as high! Get what you want for a better price!
