I would check with your venue first before you do anything. I am in Calgary and only about 60% of venues have the hooks on the ceiling and not all venues will allow it, even if they are able to do it. Not only that venues will usually NOT allow customer/clients do it themselves because it's a liability issue for them. So you ethier have to hire someone, if the venue does allow it or not have any thing on the ceiling at all. Sometimes venues won't even allow it on the walls, I would double check your contract and also speak with the venue. If they do approve it, I would get something in writting. I have seen it happen many times where a venue will agree and on the wedding day change their mind. Better to be safe then sorry since ceiling treatments are not cheap to rent.

I won't be renting anything, but I will be sure to check with the venue.
Thank you for the Calgary-specific input!

Depends on your venue.. some people dont let you hang stuff up.The place we are getting already has the hooks up ( I checked lol) But I ordered tulle from efavormart.com by the bult they are nice n cheap!!!.. look online for some measurements so you know how much you need, or go to the venue and measure it all out.Im just doing it over the dance floor, and since our theme is starry night I will be hanging some stars from it, and blue tulle.Than i think you will need some battery lights to hang up and place it on top of the tulle.
Hope this helps.. but i would recommend goggle up how to make ceiling swags, and it will give ya a ruff idea.

We decorated our own venue the same way but without the tulle. You can see in this picture above some guests.

Because the ceilings were about 25 feet high we had to bring in scaffolding which was a pain. So we finally ended up calling an electrician in my parent's little town and he lent us a super tall ladder. Then poor DH had to put all these little hooks into the ceiling and strung the lights down on fishing line. Took a few hours but was worth it! Changed this giant hall into a much cozier, more intimate venue. Then we also hung white and green chinese lanterns and these giant tissue paper balls that I made (love Martha Stewart!) from the strings of lights.

It was great and only ended up costing us about 200$ for the lights. I think we had about 50 strings of white lights.

****Which I still have in my basement if anyone wants to buy them! Chinese lanters too! I'll have to get orgaized one day and post everything in the 'For Sale' section

Chris, how/where did you plug them in?? Were there outlets in the ceiling, or did you have to run extension cords down the walls?
