So, I have to agree that I would be really pissed if my parents did that to me!! I think its illegal to open someone elses mail without their permission too. Maybe you could point that out if they do get really stubborn with you. Its so sad that they are taking the excitement away from you

I would be very upset too.  I was SO excited receiving them back in the mail!!!  DH didnt even open them so that I could.   I would try and explain to them how exciting it is for you and maybe they will understand and not do it again.  Also, as PP pointed out, if the rsvp cards are addressed to you, they are doing something illegal.

I'd be disappointed too...but unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about that 1st one now...just tell your parents that in the future you would really love to be able to open them yourself.

Gosh..I remember when our RSVPs started coming in...I got home LONG before my husband from work and I would check the mail, and then have to sit there with a pile of them, unopened, because I had to wait for him to get home so we could open them together!

Yes, although its ok to be hurt. Don't start a war over it. at least they didn't hide it or something.

Man, why is it that I always disagree lol

Can you be upset?  Absolutly. Is it something that should ruin your day, or hour or minute?  Nope.

You'll get plenty of RSVPs, and does it matter that your fingers tore open the envelope??  Not really, the reply is the same if someone else opened it.

Try and remember that your parents are obviously just as excited as you are, and to tell them "You're breaking the law" is a bit much...

I didn't say it was going to ruin my day. I simply said I was angry about it. I did not make a huge issue over it I simply explained the it was very exciting to me and I wanted to open them. They reply to that was "were paying for it therefore there shouldn't be a problem with us opening them" that was what made me angry. They are addressed to me and FH.

*as a side not, my mother has a habit of opening my mail which is partly why I was so angry about it.

I talked to my parents about this the day I sent my invitations. My RSVP's were addressed to my parents but I told them how excited I was to open all the RSVP's and how I felt that it was our wedding and I went through all the work to make them the least they could do is let me have the satisfaction of opening them when they come back. Everyday when I come home from work my Mom has the ones that arrived that day in a pile on tne counter to be opened. I usually don't even get a chance to get to them before she is standing next to me telling me how many came in today

I understand how you would feel...this would piss me off as well.

Maybe tell your parents thank you for offering the help with the wedding and that you do appreciate all they have done and are doing for you but to respect your wishs as this is really important to you that you open them.

Maybe you could also tell them to hold off opening them and when you get home you could all open them toegther...I know you probably don't want that but trust me after a couple of them they won't care as much.

My DH & I opened them together as they came in...we were very firm about our parents not opening the mail.

It all depends on what works with your parents..maybe they need to be r
