Hi all,

This site is so helpful, I'm wondering if anyone can answer a couple more questions I have? We have our wedding booked at Bahia Principe Akumal in Playa Del Carmen for January 2010 however we are flying down a videographer and since we have to be there for a 4 business day rule minimum, our videographer may not be able to make it.

We are considering Jamaica since they are only a 2 day rule from what I hear, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of great resorts (under $1500 for my guests) in Jamaica, and also if there are bans on bringing your own Videographer there?

I have read they charge you a fortune for that...any experiences/advice would help!

Thanks!!

With Mexico, you need to be in the country 3 business days (2 if you get married back home before hand).  There are quite a few local photographers that have websites that take excellent pics. Let me know and I can give you the names of a few.  That might be worth it depending on what you are paying to have your photgrapher fly down to the resort.  You may have a hard time finding a resort in Jamaica under $1500.  Def not any of the Riu's, you could try the Bahia Principe or some of the Sunset or Royal Decameron resorts, but they are older.  THe nice thing about Jamaica is that you only have to be there 1 day (2 for some resorts) and you do not have to have anything translated.  Usually the restriction for outside photographers lies in the resort itself, not the destination, so keep that in mind! Hope this helps!

Different resorts have different policies. Most will ask for a day fee, which is anywhere from $100-500. Others will require a minimum stay of 1-3 days.
You should find out with your resort.

You will need to get blood work done for a Mexican wedding. And it must be done locally. That would be one thing that would change my mind for a Mexican wedding. You could always have a civil ceremony here and then renew your vows in Mexico. Your guest do not even have to know. A couple I know did this and that was how they got around the blood work rule.

If you want Jamaica you could get the Sunset Jamaica Grand in Ocho Rios for about $1500 per person. The waiting time is 24hrs after arrival if you have applied for the marriage license before arrival.
