I definetly want to make my own invitations and I am wondering where I can get cardstock, vellum paper, ribbon, and some nice envelopes all for a great price. I love this forum and I find everyone is so great at helping eachother out, so I would love suggestions...

Yes, I find that michaels really over prices their stuff. The only good thing about them is that they have everything in the same place so its convenient. I did get all my invite supplies there tho hehe

| Where are you located? I bought all of my supplies at Memory Keeper in Hamilton. Ordering from there for at least 50 invites gives you 20% discount and 5 hours crop time in their room, with their tools. Standard 12x12 cardstock is .75 regular price. They have vellums, specialty papers, envelopes.... I am not sure of their prices for these?? Check out their website also.... www.discountscrapbookingsupplies.com

| My approach to the DIY was to go around and price it all out and then average it all out to see whether or not it was worth doing before I bought anything.. the cheaper, the better!! I would recommend ordering your envelopes from www.paperenvelopes.ca because it's way cheaper, and you can get as many as you need... plus it's Canadian, always a plus. I've ordered from there twice, and both times they shipped it my order that day and I got them the next day. The only downside I guess is that you can't order online... I ordered the linen-textured cream envelopes (http://www.paperenvelopes.ca/product.php?product=linen) @ 25 cents each for the outer and @ .17 cents for the inner.. You can make 2 pocket folds out of a one 12x12 cardstock, and it fits perfect into the inner envelope, in case you didn't want to use an outer one... The RSVP envelopes were 10 cents each. I think shipping was around 6-7 dollars. Depending on your invite, the Ashley Announcement coloured envelopes are really nice too and a little cheaper! (I've ordered them before) Cardstock @ Michael's is trickier, but it can be done cheaply if you bide your time for the sales.. if you can find a 12x12 in a sheet you like that costs 99 cents, it'll probably go on sale for 39 cents.. it does at least once a month from what I can see.. ie. 35 sheets @ .99 = 34.65 VS 35 sheets @ .39 = 13.65.. WORTH IT! BUT use some of the 'nicer' cardstock costs 1.29 a sheet, or 1.69 for the metallic shiny stuff, and it can get pricey.. lol.. I managed to find a cheaper one, and am using the metallic stuff as accents so I don't use as much of it. If you're going to need a pile of it though, go talk to a mgr.. I called inquiring whether the 'shiny expensive' ones ever went on sale, and she offered 25% off if I order it - but it'll take 6 weeks; can't hurt if you have the time though, every bit helps! KEEP THE WEIGHT/WIDTH OF YOUR INVITE IN MIND!! If you're invite weighs too much, it'll cost you DOUBLE in postage... and don't forget about the width either.. I had made a mock-up of an invite that was wrapped in a 1" thick ribbon, which was then tied in a bow at the front (guests would have to slide the band off to open it) The KNOT of the bow made the invite too thick and would not fit into the slot canada post uses to measure post... although the weight was right to keep it at the 52 cent stamp, it was too thick and would have cost 1.15 to mail it! noo way, went home and tried again.. lol.. Even thought it looked cute, there was no way I was going to spend that much on stamps. Now I have a super thin ribbon (3/1.00 when on sale at michael's, again goes on sale about once a month, regular .59/roll - also tied 100 favour boxes up using said ribbon using 6 rolls)

| Michaels isnt really that expensive if you go when paper is on sale. They have large packages of vellum that you can buy and print on... and you can buy the package with your 40% off coupon. If it was me, I would just make a list of things you need and pick it up slowly.. using the 40% off everytime you go! Goodluck!!

I purchased most of my invite supplies from paper-source, an online website. I loved their customer service and it wasn't too expensive. Good luck

| Thanks ladies for all the responses. I am located in Stratford, Ont. I am going to check out Michaels this weekend. I also found a lot of online paper suppliers have really reasonable prices too.
