| Not a fan of Fondant icing but I like the smooth look of it? We were thinking a white chocolate but that is not working so well? Any suggestions? Has anyone done this? Any alternatives to fondant?

| Fondant tastes terrible for the most part. It's that simple. Every fondant covered cake should have a layer of buttercream under the fondant. Most people just pull off the fondant and eat the cake underneath. The alternate is buttercream. It won't be quite as smooth but a good cake decorator should be able to make it look quite nice. I personally work in buttercream because I enjoy the way it can be manipulated.

In another topic about fondant, people said that different brands of fondant taste different, so maybe you could find a kind you like. I haven't liked fondant in the past, and just peeled it off and ate the rest of the cake

I agree 100%.. not ALL fondont tastes bad!! Talk to your baker about different types and different options.
Mine is going to be a chocolate flavoured fondont..and it will have a layer of buttercream underneath. YUM

| I didnt like fondant either, and my cake maker said that I would have to use pound cake if I wanted fondant. So, we picked 3 yummy kinds of cake and went with a whipped icing and she made it look great! (I wanted is as smooth as possible too) here's a pic:

| You can have different flavors put intoyour fondant. But I still didn't like the taste. My cake maker used a stiffer buttercream icing. Here is a picture.

| Definitely more of a fan of buttercream. I actually like the fact that my cake looks a little bit different and not as perfect, makes it look more appealing to me for some reason.

| I'm leaning more towards the buttercream as well but I do face another problem with that...weather. It will be very warm at the time of my wedding and so the cake may "sweat" ( I know very bad word choice) . But I've been told that buttercream takes the heat well.
