Bron (6/3/2009)
I am in a detached 2 storey house in Pickering and I pay about $3000.

We have talked to the bank about putting it into our Mortgage but they say they have to set up an account inorder to pay it and to start with they are going to take more money from you then is really needed inorder to get a base for that account.  It will get back to you eventually but it could take a while...has anyone heard about this?

Something like this happened to us last year, and came as quite a surprise. We arranged to have our taxes lumped into our mortgage when we moved in August. And then we recieved a bill from the city in November for $1400.00, stating that our taxes had not been paid.

So, we contacted our mortgage company, asking what we've been paying for, and they told us that they start paying our taxes in January 2009, and we are responsible for the last quarter of 2008. They do that to build up an account. What really sucked is we had no idea, and had to come up with $1400.00.

We live in Cambridge, on a 75x150 ft. lot, and pay $5600.00 per year.

My dream wedding was on November 7th, 2009,

It was absolutely perfect!

I live in a detached home on a 1/4 acre lot in the GTA and our property tax is around $2600.  Thank goodness we decided to put it in with the mortgage, so we don't really even notice it.

I can't believe they charge that much on condos!  Jeepers!

Ouch sucks to be us... we are paying $3200 this year for a smaller lot, not even anywhere near the GTA!! It's a detached 1150 sqft home built in 1956. Not fair!

  That sucks...where do you live?

Our house was built in 1973...and it is a small 3 bedroom, 2 bath bungalow...nothing fancy at all...maybe that's why?

Hoping for a little sweet pea in 2011!

We live in an older neighbourhood in the Niagara region.... also ours is nothing fancy at all... we call it our starter home. It's smaller, 3 bedrooms, 1 bath. Sounds like I have some investigating to do now.

Can't believe how high the taxes are in London and i thought Toronto was bad.

We have a 34x145 lot , paying about $3000 annual.  Just hope we dont get reassessed anytime soon as we have fully renovated the home and taxes would go up for sure!

For our bungalow on a 45x125 lot in Hamilton we pay almost $2100.  This is added with our mortgage bill though so I don't even notice it.  Otherwise I would scramble at the last minute to come up with each quarterly payment
