I'm in a small town about an hour NW of Ottawa. DH and I just put in an offer on our first house (will find out by Tuesday if we get it) and the taxes on it are $1314 for the 73'x125' lot/3 bedroom home.

I live in a very rural area in Nova Scotia. This was our first tax bill in our new home and it was just over $860 and that included the fire emergency/garbage collection/etc...

Married to the PERFECT MAN.... for me!

We will be paying over $2800 for a detached home on a 100x50 lot in a small town (7000 ppl) in the Alberta foothills. But I guess the view is worth it!

I'm currently taking real estate law and the Prof said to ALWAYS contest your municipal property evaluation and because they get so many contested they will almost automatically put it down 30-40%. All you have to do is call. I'm in Montreal and they do the evaluations every 3 years so next time I'm for sure going to try this!
