There's a ton of great information on here!  I'm just wondering about people's recent opinions on Resorts in the Punta Cana region.  We are in the absolute beginning stages of this, but we would like to nail something down soonish.  We are looking at something between mid April to mid May 2010.

We have a variety of guests with different pricepoints.  We are hoping to find something for around 1500 per person.

Any suggestions about your own experiences with resorts in this area would be so greatly appreciated.  It's a little overwhelming at this point!

Punta Cana is a beautiful area-but very popular! Up until recentely there was only one justice of the peace for the whole country-they now have 2! I wouldn't wait too too long to get your date secured! Especially if you have a particular date/time you want to get married.  Here are my top pics.  There are others, but you wont get them at the $1500 mark booking in advance (aka Majestic Colonial!)

Barcelo Punta Cana, Grand Palladium Bavaro, Iberostar Bavaro, Ocean Blue, Catalonia Bavaro!

Hope this helps!

We are getting married at the Bahia Principe Akumal in Mayan Riviera in January. We were there this past January and met with the coordinator.

They have been nothing but helpful over email and I know someone who got married at Bahia Principe Tulum and said everything went perfect and they were never even there before...just went in blind and it was perfect!

I've been to Punta Cana and not a fan because of the weather we  experience..been to Mexico 8 times and love it!!!

Good luck!!

We choose Varadero, Cuba. We had been to Varadero before and LOVED Cuba. Also it is one of the easiest place to get married in as far as what you need to do to get ready. It is very family friendly, affordable and the beaches are beautiful.

Things I've done.....resort, and date booked; guys wedding attire purchased; photographer booked; everything for BUT DRESS!!!

Thanks for the help, I will definitely check those resorts out!

I have a close American friend who will be coming to my wedding, so Cuba is not really an option for me.

Another contstraint I have is that the only thing my mother has insisted on with my wedding is that we are married by a minister.  has anyone done/going to do for their weddings?  It's hard to get clear information on the guidelines.  I think I read in Mexico that you can't be married by a minister, and in the DR the judge signs the certificate but the minister does the ceremony.  So that is another thing I need to work with.  Does anybody know anything about this?

Thanks!

We got married in Punta Cana and have been to the Dominican 5 times, all nice resorts

Majestic Colonial is where we got married

We have also stayed at Princess Bavaro, Gran Bahia Principe and Ocean Sands.. we have also stayed on the Puerta Plata side but I would not recommed that as much as the Punta Cana resorts...

I would recommend them in that order

Majestic Colonial

Dominican is a great place for a wedding. The only issue(if you can call it that) are the topless ladies on the beach. Some bring little kids and not aware of it. I have a client right now who found this after booking and a bit upset,as she has about 10 kids at the wedding.
They also can get in your wedding pictures. People tend to stop and look, when wedding ceremony is going on.

Hi there, my husband and I were married in Holguin, Cuba at the Paradisus Rio de Oro resort and spa. It's a 5 star resort and I have nothing but praise for the resort, it's facilities, services and staff.

In April, it cost us $1600 each taxes in for 1 week. We went with 8 other family members and were treated like royalty from the instant we stepped off the bus at the hotel.

We had been to Cuba one time before and stayed in the same region but that resort. The Paradisus is truly paradise. The suites were fantastic, the grounds were beautiful. The wedding is done in a gazebo overlooking the ocean and the beach below it. The food is delicious and there are so many choices of where to eat. I think we only ate at the buffet once!

If you have any questions or want to see pics feel free to PM me!

Everything was very easy, and we didn't have to have any documents translated before we arrived. We simply filled out a form and along with scanned copies of our birth certs and passports we faxed it to the resort's office in the GTA. I was able to email the wedding coordinator at the resort with any questions, her name is Odalys, she's amazing! We recently recevied our marriage certificate by registered mail and it took 3 months just like we were told. There were only GOOD surprises!

Have you considered whether or not you want to take a photographer with you? If so you might start interviewing them and picking their brains first. My photographer went on a lot of destination shoots this winter (I forget how many but I think over 10) so someone like that would be a good person to ask because they can compare.

we were married at the gran bahia principe in runaway bay jamaica by a minister.  a beautiful resort!!!!

i dont know anything about the dominican but when we were originally looking there was a place in punta cana called the princess____?  sorry i forget the name.  anyways...it was a beautiful new resort and it had other resorts in the chain beside it so you could "stay at one, play at three" type thing.  this would be good for your different guests with different price points.

destination weddings are the best!!!!  good luck!!!
