Ok so who is using real vs silk flowers and what are the advantages to each?  I am thinking silk for all the bouquets (because then we can keep them forever)  but then on the other hand, I would love the smell of real flowers, and well, they are real haha.  Just curious as to what others are doing.

I did real because i loved the smell of the flowers and did not want to keep them. But I have done some silk ones for others and they look beautiful. If you are crafty you can save a lot of money by doing them yourself. There are descriptions on utube how to put together your own and you can then find the colours and hues that you love the best.

Anyway good luck, I did real to carry and fake on the centerpieces so I could do them before hand. Either way they will be beautiful.

I opted for going silk because I wanted my BM's to have souvenirs and I wanted to keep my bouquet as well.

And it's WAY less expensive than the real thing. I got my bouquwt made, 4 bridemaids bouquets, flower girl basket, 10 boutenirs and 6 corsages for $200!!

Hey there Scraggles,

Well, I have to say, I am biased, so take my advice with a grain of salt...

I went with silk, primarily for two reasons:

#1 - I could see exactly what I was getting LONG before the weding, and be sure I was happy with my purchase.

#2 - I could have them LONG before the weding, have them checked off my list and not worry about where they are the morning of.

That being said, I think they can be cheaper, and you can keep them forever.

I went with high grade silk, and have NO regrets.  They are what I want, and I've got them in my hands until Sept 09 when I get married, and beyond.

Here are some pics, in case you were interested in how real they can look:

Hope that helped!

We used silk..  I wanted a keepsake bouquet and so did my daughter (my MOH).   A lot of people thought they were real.   I didn't have to worry about them wilting..  And I got all my stuff 4 months before the wedding and didn't have worry about.  My silks were beautiful!  I have no regrets..

We did use real roses for our rose ceremony though..

I went with silk too, for all the reasons above.  But my main two were

a) allergies--my mum and sister (maid of honour) get terrible migraines etc from real flowers. (but if you want the flowers to smell nice anyways, alot of ppl mist their silks with a flower scented perfume.)

b)keepsakes--i really want to keep my bouquet forever

(and being cost effective doesn't hurt either )

Silk was tempting because of the price, but deep down I knew I'd regret it so I'm going with real. Just make sure either way that you go with what you want!

This is what I was thinking, too, and why I'm leaning towards silk.

Something else to consider (not sure if anyone else has already said it): does anyone in your WP have any allergies?  Any of your guests severely allergic to flowers (that you're aware of)?

ETA - I see someone else did mention it.
