Okay, this might sound a little crazy, but we are thinking of going with a cross-country roadtrip for our honeymoon...

Our wedding is in Ontario, but my fiance and I were thinking of driving up through Quebec, spending several days there, and then heading out to the East Coast for the majority of the time.  From there, we are thinking to slowly wend our way towards the West Coast, perhaps to finish our honeymoon in Banff.  (My fiance works in Alberta, so we would need to end up there anyways for the new school year.)  We'd have approx. six weeks to do it all in.  (Yay for teachers getting the summer off)

So what I'm wondering is... do you have any suggestions for places to stay and things to do?  I would appreciate any and all ideas, for any provinces (including Ontario) I'm looking for ideas on anything...camping, bed and breakfasts, hotels, attractions, places to eat, nice beaches, fun things to do, places where we can rent horses and go horseback riding, go white-water river rafting, etc.... Anywhere you've been and would reccommend.

 Thanks

Thats a great idea. My FH and I are probably going to Newfoundland for a mini honeymoon right after the wedding. I got a bunch of tourist info from the province's website. I used to live out east, but I never got around to visiting nfld... Anyway, I suggest checking out websites.

If you like Camping, Charleston Lake is a beautiful Ontario park, and you're very close to the St. Lawrence. I went on a cruise to Boldt Castle, and it was gorgeous!

If you head into Montreal, I recommend the Delta Centre Ville. I got the room for 89 a night on Travelzoo. You should definitely check out Old Montreal, the Basilica, and Biodome. Some amazing restaurants too.

My other advice is to use the hotel Concierge. Up until the last few trips I've taken, I avoided these people. They can however; find you the most amazing deals/restaurants/attractions that you would otherwise have no clue about.

If you plan to do any other camping, feel free to ask me questions, I've been to LOTS of Ontario Parks.

Good Luck!

We are from Ontario, but getting married in PEI, and having a full week of family vacation with our son before the wedding. Our honeymoon will be a slow drive back to Ontario, just me and FH.... so far on the agenda is:

Whale Watching in Nova Scotia http://www.cabottrail.com/whalewatching/index.html
Hot Air ballooning in Quebec City

LaRonde in Montreal

Our son will only be 23 months when we are married, and we have never been away for more than one night... so I think he'll be fine with his Nana and Grampa, but I probably won't be able to handle more than 4 nights away from him, so our honeymoon is short.

I'm happy to give Manitoba advice.

After you cross the Ontario-Manitoba boarder, you should camp in the Whiteshell Provincial Park http://www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/parks/popular_parks/whiteshell/index.html Beautiful. My favourite place there are The Bannock Point Petroforms http://www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/parks/popular_parks/petroforms/index.html

The petroforms sites are sacred places used from time to time by First Nations people for ceremonial purposes. If ceremonies are in progress we suggest that you postpone your visit. Please respect this place as you would your church, synagogue, mosque or other place of worship.

In Winnipeg there are many fun things to do. Depending on your dates, you should try to hit the Winnipeg Fringe Festival July 16-27 http://www.winnipegfringe.com/ or Folklorama August 3-16 http://www.folklorama.ca/

After leaving Winnipeg & heading yest, you should also do a quick stop at the Carberry Sand Hills within Spruce Woods Provincial Park, just south of Hwy 1 between Winnipeg & Brandon. There you'll discover a true desert in the middle of the Prairies. http://www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/parks/popular_parks/spruce_woods/index.html

Then, if you head onto the Yellowhead Highway, you should take a quick detour before you hit Saskatchewian into Riding Mountain National Park. It's gorgeous. http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/mb/riding/index_E.asp

I have other Manitoba ideas if you want specifics. Just ask.

Well as a true Montreal girl - it is a must for a romantic weekend stop (at least)!  With all of the wonderful festivals here in the summer, it is just the greatest time to be in Montreal!  (fireworks festival, jazz, just for laughs, to name a few!)

Also, if you are into camping and heading to the Maritimes - check out the Bay of Fundy and Fundy National Park in NB.  We managed to find the quaintest little home-turned-restaurant at the sight of a totally cute (and romatic) lighthouse at Cape Enrage (also in NB).  It is on the water (of course), and off a cliff that is just breath-taking!

Enjoy!
