(((((((HUGS)))))))

I agree with the other girls, don't include him anymore, if he brings it up again say something like "for the sake of our relationship, let's talk about something else"

Yeah...sadly, I think you all have a point.

My dad was always the one I pictured planning the wedding with (because we were so close before).  But I honestly don't know if our relationship can take much more arguing.  So I think I will step back and just stop talking to him about it.  If he tries to bring it up, I'll tell him I don't want to talk about it.

Thanks for the advice, ladies.  It seems like the simple answer, but sometimes you are so frustrated, even the simplest of answers can seem complicated.

I feel for you

Your dad is old school and he just doens't realized what he's doing is wrong.  I'm going through the exact same thing but with my mom.  It's just gotten to the point where I don't visit her every Sunday like I always did and I don't talk about the wedding anymore.

Sadly there's not much you can do when they're stuck in their ways other than "smile and nod".

I can understand how frustrating this must be... although I haven't experienced anything to the same degree, I've had my own challenges with my dad when it comes to my own wedding.

I agree with the other ladies, don't include him anymore. It's YOUR wedding not his. You should invite who YOU want.

Wishing you all the best with this issue!

That's sucky that your dad is looking for you to turn your wedding into a paid event. And for him to try to ruin things with your mom?! He probably realizes that he's stepped over the line and is making sure that you don't start turning to her with your problems instead of him.

I'd probably just stop involving him with the planning. If he wants to find out what an awesome day it's going to be, he'll just have to wait and see.

Soooo....the phone rang tonight and guess who it was?  And, of course, he called to discuss the wedding.  He started with, "I don't want you to get all upset like the last time we talked..."  and I cut him off.  I told him right then and there why I was upset previous times we talked.  I told him I was upset because everything he has been saying has not been helpful, but hurtful.  I said that I understand that he is set in his ways, but that saying things like he has said is not right and that he upset me.  I said it needed to stop.

And he APOLOGIZED.  He said he never meant for his words to offend and that he was really sorry he had offended me.  When I quoted things he had said to me, he admitted to them and admitted he was wrong.  I told him that he was making a joyous occassion very hard and sad for me and he was very sorry for that, too.

He basically said, "If I ever made you think that I was in no way looking forward to your day, I am sorry.  I am beyond excited for your wedding.  I have waited for it your whole life, and because of that, I sometimes get carried away with the things that I say.  This should be a day of celebration, and if I have made it anything but that, I am really sorry.  I guess i never took the time to think about what I was saying."

We talked for about an hour and a half.  There were no tears and no fights.  I basically told him if he wants to be involved, we need to work together and not just him trying to make all the decisions.

I know that we still have months to get through and that we may not have solved all the issues,  but I think the talk was a step in the right direction.  I think he finally listened and understood a little better.  Hopefully, there is still a lot of time to keep repairing the damage between us.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
