I don't have a groom. I guess that's pretty untraditional

Nope I did that for my first.

I'll play too!  Being raised in an Italian, Catholic household:

I am not getting married in a church - ceremony and reception will be held at the banquet hall.

My FH is divorced with 3 kids (big no/no for some Italians, LOL)

No Save the Dates

Artificial Flowers

No bridesmaids/ushers, flowergirl or ringboy (huge at Italian weddings)

2 MOH - 1 BM - Told MOHS to wear whatever they want.  They are both wearing a "pant" outfit and "black". (again a no-no with Italians)

No decorations in the hall!!

and biggest tradition breaker (for Italians) - have been sleeping with him before getting married. LOL!!!

Everything else will be pretty traditional. If I think of anything else, I will add it!  Love this thread!!

I don't think that most guests expect to observe tradition--- there doesn't seemed to be alot of brides and grooms who go the traditional route and so it is not such a bad thing.  As for favours, it seems silly to give trinkets that no-one keeps and ends up at a garage sale.

I guess with the exception of a religious or cultural tradition that is specific to the bride and groom background then giving in to some small traditions I guess wouldn't hurt us.

I know that my Mom is having a small table of food for anyone who comes to the house before the ceremony--( it is a Portuguese tradition) it seems silly to spend money for small cookies and such, but she believes that it  is a special blessing that only the family can give to me... I didn't want to do it but finally after weeks of quiet suffering on her part that I finally gave in.

But we have decided to for go other traditional things, like favours, Unity candles and throwing the bouquet.

ok here goes my list:

-no stds

-no reply cards for our invites, but a phone number instead

-evening wedding with no sit down dinner, but only a late night buffet

-getting married in the same place as my reception, therefore no church

-no real wedding dress, I'll be wearing a bridesmaid dress

-no bridesmaids or anything

-fh and i live together, sleep together and will most def be spending the night before the wedding together and most of the morning.

-absolutely NO flowers... still trying to think of something to carry other than a bouquet.

-no decorations in the venue at all , except we are putting extra effort into having gorgeous tables.

-cash bar, however we may have wine for each table.

-no traditional dances, except our first dance

I'm sure theres more, but I can't think of them right now!

I forgot to add that I won't be having reply cards either! There's going to be a number to call or e-mail.

No STD's either...  I'm sure I'm forgetting more, but I'll as I remember

* We're having a Pagan/Jewish wedding
* No church/no priest
* No shule/no rabbi
* No STDs
* FH isn't dancing with his mom
* No wedding party dance
* No favors instead we are making a donation to Sick Kids hospital.
* We are asking people not to take the centerpieces home because all the flowers are being given to the retirement home my great grandmother lives in.
* We are having fireworks (my dad is a pyro-technician)
* I'm not having a "late night buffet"
* No limo
* Head table is for our parents, sibs, and us.
* Have 6 BM and 6 GM everyone thinks it's too many
* No flower girl or ring bearer
* One of our bridal party has CP and so we will have stair escorts to assist.

I'm sure I'll think of more thing as time goes on.
