Given that what I've seen the most are big, formal, 100 guests+ afternoon Catholic weddings with full mass (and the couples were Atheists) with sit down dinner and dance (cash bar), here how we are being "untraditional":

- Less that 100 guests;
- No children or cousins invited;
- RSVPs came to our address, not my parents';
- Morning ceremony;
- Casual to semi-formal;
- NO limo;
- Brass quintet for the ceremony music;
- NOT using "Canon in G" or "Here comes the Bride" for the ceremony music;
- Groom in white;
- Bride NOT in all-white
- BMs are not wearing the same dress and they're not matching my dress colour;
- Dads and GMs in navy blue;
- No flowergirl or ringbearer;
- Catholic ceremony, but no eucharist, and we actually ARE Christians;
- Unity candle ceremony (never seen it before, but love the significance);
- No receiving line;
- Lunch reception with open bar;
- Donation favours;
- No programs/menus;
- No bouquet/garter toss (unless I get bullied into it... and I know who's getting married next anyway, my brother's date is a day under 3 months after mine);
- No DJ or band, but two live singers;
- No "going away outfit" for me;
- Leaving immediately for honeymoon, so no "gift opening" or "morning-after brunch".

Oh, I want in on this!!

- DH and I lived together beforehand

- Our friend did the ceremony, no priest or JP (we actually got married at city hall the day before)

- Wedding was on a Friday

- I wore black!!

- I was a couple of weeks pregnant at the wedding

- We had no flowers, only my bouquet

- Buffet dinner

- RSVPs came to our place, not my parent's

- No children were invited

Hmm... That's all I can think of at the moment although I'm sure there are a couple more.

Cool thread! Here's mine:

  • no showers, stags, etc
  • marriage commissioner performing cermony (not in a church)
  • no receiving line
  • no bouquet or garter toss
  • no formal speeches
  • definitely spending the night together the night before!

Just a heads up. For those ladies that aren't serving a late night snack in Ontario that's illegal. If you are serving alcohol you have to provide your guests with some form of food. I would head to the nearest LCBO they'll be able to clarify my ramblings.

Really? I haven't been told that by my venue or my wedding planner. I'll have to email her and ask.

This is also the case in Manitoba

-Married by a JP in DH's parents gorgeous backyard
-Daughter walked me down the aisle
-Spent the night before together, and the 2 of us and my daughter went out for breakfast
-Cash bar (which IS traditional around here)
-3 BM's and 4 GM
-No veil
-Made the meal ourselves (cold buffet, cost under $200 to feed 100 people)
-DH saw pics of me in my dress the day I bought it
-Lived together first
-Dh didn't have a stag
-Had a social and shower even though it was my second wedding

There's likely more...

hmmm...lets see...

i got married in a pool hall and had my reception in the same room

no stag/stagette

no std's

no maid of honour or best man - just groomsmen and bridesmaids - and they were uneven numbers 3 girls 4 boys - 5 including the ring boy - no flower girl

lived together for 6 years before the wedding (aka the house of sin - thanks mom! )

no garter toss or bouquet toss (no garter at all actually)

wrote own ceremony - which included a rose ceremony and some shel silverstein...although i'll admit the damn thing was a little long is it bad when you fast forward through your own wedding video?

no father/daughter, mother/son dances, wedding party dances, etc...

no priest/church (BIG deal since i'm greek!)

married a non-greek non-baptised younger man (let the sinning begin!)

inscribed our wedding bands with a swear word! lol! (apparently we're now famous in montreal for it!)

no limo (why would i give up a free benz?! i'll never see the inside of one again!)

no recieving line

no speeches except for MC's introducing us and us saying thank you to the guest

no head table - sat at a regular table with our parents

pretty non-traditional pictures

non-floral centrepieces

made own invitations

is that it? i don't know...it's early
