If you are having a bar at your wedding, the venue is taking care of the bar (they have made the purchases, bartenders is with them and so on) - whos responsible if something happens to someone, you or the venue?

the venue......the property and insurance is theirs.....and the liquor license is in their name...its their bartenders that should be smart served .....i am assuming you are talking about like..if someone drives drunk and gets hurt and how drunk people can how sue???? ya...it would be the venue.....much like if you went to restaurant and something happened......i know you are just looking for an answer...i wont go on my diatribe about how ABSOLUTELY ridiculous that is though!!!hahahhaa...

We are responsible as we are getting the liquor licence, liability insurance runs about 150 - 250 dollars and it can give you 1 to 2 million dollars coverage but with exclusions. Our hall is part of a church so they are not licenced under the LLBO. So thats why we are responsible, for the liquor licence and they won"t cover liability.

The venue is more responsible than you, but you could still hold some responsibility/liability.

After a work party started to get ugly a few years ago and I had to shut the bar down to everyone at 8:45pm, I now instruct venues; 1) No shooters.  2) Max 2 alcoholic drinks at a time.  3) Non-alcoholic drinks are paid for by the host.

I'm the the same situation and I asked the venue manager. His response: They are responsible.

This is slightly OT, but I know is Qc we have a law stating that a bartender must stop serving alcohol to someone who is intoxicated. It is the case in the other provinces?

Yes absolutely!!!! any place that serves alcohol has their servers smart served...or...most of them do......or SHOULD.....when my sister was a waitress she had to be smart served...and it talks about your responsibility and you have to cut people off....obviously bars NEVER do because it so easy to hide behind...well...they LOOKED sober......but...its the same thing with....if you were to walk into the LCBO here.....and you were drunk...they wouldnt sell you alcohol.......
