who is the responsible at law...the venue. Can the person who got hurt still sue you and drag you through litigation costing you a crap load of money....absolutely. In short....we should all make its our responsiblity to make sure no one gets hurt. Crap....Well I think my venue will be good and not over serve, last time we were there we talked to him about the event they had the night before and the number of people, he said how serious they are about having the Liq Lic so

With the utmost respect, I hope you are not limiting your involvement in this capacity to simply finding out who would be responsible at law if and when your guests drive drunk. The hall may be legally responsible but you have a moral responsibilty to ensure that guests you're inviting, who you know will most likely drink & drive, don't.

I'm the the same situation and I asked the venue manager. His response: They are responsible. This is slightly OT, but I know is Qc we have a law stating that a bartender must stop serving alcohol to someone who is intoxicated. It is the case in the other provinces? YES!! There was a guy in my town that was drinknig ALL DAY at the pub, and then drove away, and crashed into the grocery store. The patrons in the bar said the guy was obviously loaded beyond loaded, and the bartender was still serving him...so when do morals trump dollars?

If you are having a bar at your wedding, the venue is taking care of the bar (they have made the purchases, bartenders is with them and so on) - whos responsible if something happens to someone, you or the venue?the venue which is why we went with the venue run bar for our wedding. DH and I didnt want to be responsible for some of our stupider friends that may drink and drive. Which nobody did thank goodness..

To save yourself from this include hotel room option in your invites. You can also get a couple of cab chits just in case.

Here in Alberta it's defiantly against the law. In fact, a bar in one of our little towns just got slapped with a MAJOR fine for overserving patrons. (I think someone had been stabbed in the front of the bar, and this made the police look at the bar closely).
