Now that everyone's mind is in the gutter with mine, I just wanted to share my STD's in case someone out there was thinking of doing the message in a bottle theme.

The first batch has gone out and they've been a huge hit!  In fact they've been such a hit people are refusing to open them as they look too cute the way they are.  FH's co-workers are actually running around trying to steal each other's bottles to open them and read them so they don't ruin their own. lol

I want to go with the message in a bottle theme as well. Do you mind sharing, where you got the items and how much it was? The look awesome!

How do you stop the sand from going all over the place, or is it just loose in there?

no not at all, this is why I posted them.

Well after lots of time and frustration and spending probably hundreds of dollars in gas just to find the cheapest products...we found them!! LOL  Keep in mind there's some grunt work involved in doing it really cheap.

We went all over the city looking for the perfect bottles.  We didn't want to go with wine bottles because they were too big and heavy so we scoured and scoured and finally found the perfect size and price.  We couldn't find 6"ish bottles anywhere, we looked at the party store, walmart, zellers and 3 different dollar type stores. As a last ditch effort we went to Loblaws in hopes that we could find a cheap drink and just dump it out and use the bottle and voila!! we found them in the pop section for .66 each (make your own wine stores wanted .85/bottle), Grace tropical fruit drinks. We dumped the juice out cause it was gross and had to clean the labels off but they worked.  Here's a pic of the drinks...

The labels were easy to get off but you need to scrub to get the glue off.  This is perfect for getting FH involved.  Here's FH scrubbing with SOS pads lol

The confetti we bought at Michael's and at the party store (the party store had a better beach selection), same price.

The corks we took from wine bottles (free), which fit perfectly (just go to any bar and ask them fo their corks)

The sand we got from Walmart - $4.50/bag (does about 30 bottles)

Shells, twine and paper (card stock paper) we bought from Michael's

Unmbrellas we bought at the party store - $11 for 144.  It was pricy I think but by then we were tired of shopping and took what was there.  The cool thing though about these umbrellas is that they don't have any design on them that the cheap ones do.

The next hardest thing was the boxes but we finally found them from a place called Avenue Industrial Supply located in Mississauga.  They charge about $1/box but they're the perfect size and type.  But after finding out it costs $7.87 to mail each bottle out we have decided to only mail them out to people who will really appreciate the work we put into them.  The rest will get them handed out to them or just get the little card in an envelope . lol  So you may not need boxes.

So in total each bottle cost about $1.50 without the box and about $2.50 with the box.  It cost us more searching for the stuff but hopefully the wisdom I've imparted on you will make it cheap for you.

The plus side for all this work is the feeling you get when people recieve the bottle.  It makes it all worth while, it really does!
