I think you can definately give people the option.

There will be wine at my afternoon shower for sure! (plus i'll probably need it for dealing with EFMIL)....

LOL I never thought of it that way, I might need a drink to help me take the edge off, and not be so nervous infront of 50 women!!

Both of my showers were in the afternoon and there was alcohol at both of them. At the first one I had amazing bellinis and wine at the second one.

My shower will be dry, as there are too many alcoholics in my family. I'm dry but I may need a shot before hand just to deal with EFSIL and FMIL in the same room as they hate each other.

I was on the fence about this same issue for our engagement party and in the end I decided to go with the non-alcoholic sparkling punch. I didn't think that having alcohol was necessary at our party since it's an afternoon lunch thing.

The sparkling punch will be just fine I think and we'll also offer coffe, tea and soda.

There was alcohol served at one of my showers. There was wine for the meal, champagne to toast and there were other options for those who wished something else. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. It's just personal preference
