fascha (5/7/2008)
jbuckle (5/7/2008) Fascha, what diapers did you decide on?I am using a combination of Happy Heiny's Small, and One-Size www.happyheinys.com as well as Fuzzi Bunz www.fuzzibunz.com and some Bum Genius 3.0 One Size www.bumgenius.com I also couldn't resist buying 1 Monkey Doodlez cause they are made by Canadian SAHM despite some negative reviews, I hope to be able to get more of these if they work well for my little man!
Fasha, how much are the Happy Heinys?

ANy of you ladies who use cloths launder them at home? I am just wondering what the reality of that is like. Are you constantly washing diapers...or do you do big load of them once a day...how does it work? Does your laundry room smell like a bathroom all the time? I am interested in cloth when the time comes but I don't actually know anyone who has used em that I can ask.

| I agree with all of the reasosn the pp's have posted, but I can say from first hand experience (I used cloth diapers with ds - the flat cotton ones & wraps) he was out of diapers & using the toilet for both #1 & #2 (and no night time diaper) by 22 mo and with absolute minimal effort or coaching on my part (and yes, I changed him regularly, so he wasn't sitting for any unreasonable time ina wet nappy!) like Jbuckle said too, they are super cute as well!

Juicy, the HH One Size were 17.50 each and that included 2 microfibre inserts. I also ordered some hemp inserts for added night-time absorbancy but I can't recall how much those were.
I bought them from www.clothdiaperoutlet.com (a SAHM in the states - Heather and she is fabulous!!!) in a package of 12 for that price.
www.amandaandvince.com support bacteria - it's the only culture some people have!

I am interested in cloth when the time comes but I don't actually know anyone who has used em that I can ask.I wash them at home. I have only 15 diapers which means I'm washing more frequently but it's not a big deal at all. Mine are the bumgenius 3.0 pocket diapers. It usually ends up every day and a half. I hang the covers and tumble dry the inserts on low UNLESS it's nice out. Now, I can hang the inserts outside... sunning them is AMAZING for the diapers! The inserts are SUPER absorbant that they'd take forever to dry inside... My lo is only 4 months and I"m exclusively breastfeeding so there isn't really any smell to the diapers. When they start solids the poops get smellier and then I'll have to dump the poops in the toilet. Right now, they go straight in the wash. Don't worry about knowing anyone. I don't either but there are tonnes of websites and forums where you can chat with other women (experts on Cloth). I may be able to help you out as well I'm really pleased with my decision!

DH and I haven't decided on disposable or cloth yet. For those of you who use cloth diapers how do you find them when you are out? My concern would be being out, having to change my baby and then having to carry around a used diaper. Plus what about leaks?

| I only use cloth when we are out and about. I take a few extra's with us just as I would with disposables. When I change, him I just fasten up the cloth diaper and put it in the little 'dirty' clothes bag that came with my diaper bag (you could just use a plastic bag) and throw it in the bin/wash when I get home. Really, it's no different than putting a puked on bib or outfit in your diaper bag. It doesn't make a mess or anything. When DS gets into solids, I'll probably purchase a bumgenius or bummis tote bag for the diapers but for right now just any bag will do. It's absolutely no different. As I mentioned before, lo doesn't leak in these diapers. He used to poop up his back (and it happened a number of times when we were out) but hasn't done this since switching to cloth. Although, as I did before, I still keep an extra outfit/sleeper in the diaper bag just in case. These are the diapers I have... we have yellow, blue, green, and white but they also come in pink.
