Just curious....

Lo is 4 months old and I am exclusively breastfeeding. I haven't yet got my period but it seems that my cycle continues...

What I mean is... now I'm noticing changes in my cm and even moods.  Sometimes of the month, I even get a bit crampy.

Could I be ovulating with no period?? I've noticed this for about 2 months now but I haven't gotten af.  maybe I'll start tracking.

Anybody experience anything like this???

in our prenatal class they said you can ovulate without a period, hence why they also recommended not relying on breast feeding as a form of birth control....because if you ovulate you can get pregnant...but with no aunt flow most people think they are not ovulating...which isnt always the case.

At the prenatal classes, they said that you're 98% protected by BF if:

-no period
-baby less than 6 months and exclusively breast fed
-BF every 6 hours or less

If one of these is missing, you're no longer 98% protected... maybe you need to buy an HPT???

I've been experiencing the same thing. I am exclusively bfing and have been noticing slight mood changes this past week for a couple days and have noticed CM changes this entire month with some slight cramping but no AF. Cramping is now gone and mood is back to normal. Danik will be 16 weeks on Tuesday. No real chance of being pregnant as we are using condoms as protection.

On April 24th I became Mrs. G!!
Danik joined our family on January 22nd!

SOunds very similar tropi,  I know I'm not pregnant as we're using protection as well.  It's just weird. It really seems like my cycle is continuing but I'm just not getting af at the end of it.... although I'm not really complaining!

Does anybody know what af will be like when it finally returns? I guess it's different for many people but just curious if it's worse than usual or whatever~

For ME, AF was worse than before pregnancy  - more flow, but no cramps (trade off??)  Anyways, for 4 months I had to use super-duper absorbent tampons PLUS wear a pad.  Ugh!! I'm glad flow is back to "normal" (ie. back to pre-preggo quality)

For me, the first cycle was really light..basically just spotting and then got progressively heavier. My dr. prescribed progesterone after 6 months to help control the flow and that seemed to help. My experience was similar to slakie with using a tampon and a pad, and I thought the progesterone controlled the flow to a more manageable amount and I'm wondering if it would have just naturally worked itself out? I was on the pill before my first, so my periods were quite light. After baby, I was reminded of my periods when a teenager..completely unpredictable and heavier. I hated walking home with my coat tied around my waist because I miscalculated when or how much. I was soaking through a pad in the time it took to get groceries and back (about 2 hours), so that's when I went to see the doctor. I never had cramps before so no change there.

I just got AF back a few days ago. It was just a couple of days of spotting, but that's what happened after the first, so that's how I knew. Next month, I expect it will be a little heavier and I should start to see changes in the CM. I'm going to get an IUD put in, so that might change things too.

For me af was horrible the first time back -- I got af after 4 months. Uggggh I had horrible cramps and it was pretty heavy. It did get better after each one and now it's just a couple of really crappy days and the rest are nothing at all. Also, when af showed up I wasn't able to put tampons in yet. It hurt like hell (yet sex was perfectly fine) and they kept popping out (sorry tmi), but the 3rd af I was back to normal.

My Dr. always mentioned to use protection because you can still ovulate even if af hasn't come back yet. His wife (exclusively bf 24/7) got preggers 5 months after having their first child and it wasn't a planned one.
