I have never been pregnant, so obviously I've never had to deal with this, but that sounds absolutely awful, and I am sure that that is 100% illegal. That is discrimination, plain and simple. I would be pissed beyond all belief. It is wrong (IMO) to discriminate against different races, sexual orientations, disabilities, etc. and discriminating against a pregnant female is no different.

I hope your friend seeks the legal help that she most rightfully deserves.

I'm with littleD2....maybe we went to the same law school, but it doesn't sound so cut and dry....she has to establish, on a balance of probabilities, that she was fired BECAUSE she was pregnant....but I can see the counter argument being that they fired her because she complained about her new work schedule, and they have to find someone who can fit their business needs.

My best advice would for her to get REAL legal advice!!

Just curious Peach, which law school did you go to - I was at the U of S and I now work at a law firm in Calgary.

I went to Oz and work at a firm in Toronto. I'm not in litigation, family, or labour, rather drawing from the cobwebs of torts, but in my experience, it is rare to have a complete "slam dunk" of an issue, ie. in that it's black/white, cut/dry.

Peach..

Ha ha - yea, I am definitely not in litigation as well and am drawing on some old torts knowledge as well and I completely agree that nothing is ever that cut and dry - hopefully this girl gets some legal help!!  Nice to meet you though
