Hey everyone, this may be a silly question, but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about toxplasmosis? I've been concerned because I have a cat, and recently my cat scratched me, pretty bad, and I'm worried about catching it and it harming my unborn baby. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Toxoplasmosis is only a concern when dealing with the litter box.  It is a parasite that lives in cat poop so you should avoid changing the litter box.  And if you have to do it, wear gloves and wash your hand thoroughly when you're done!  No worries.... I'm sure you're just fine!

Also it is a lot more common with outdoor cats, vary rarely with indoor ones.  Hope that helps.  I wouldn't worry about it, my cat thinks she's a dog and bites when she plays, as well as using her claws, I've had a few nasty marks from her too.

And, lol, most people who own cats have already been exposed to it at some point and are thereafter immune. Not to worry

Thanks everyone, you put my mind at ease! Since it's my first baby, paranoia has got the best of me.

LOL!!!  So did I!  And now I tell him that I could make the baby sick - I haven't touched the litter box for over a year now!  HAHA!
