What made you decide on it? My FH brought it up. Does it cost average, more or less than a traditional wedding at $20k? How about people? Would it be ideal if you don't have a lot of friends/family?
How did you decide on your location? How long did you stay at your destination (did you do your honeymoon there too?).

Destination weddings are definitely cheaper. Flight/hotel are the biggest expenses for most people.

| Yes, they are a bit cheaper for the couple, depending on what you want I guess, but they are much more expensive for your guests and that is certainly something to consider. I figured my family would all be there for me, and now that it's come down to time for payment I have numerous close family members who have decided they will not be able to afford it. Just something to think about. Also, be very careful who you book through and where you book. Read the fine print! Do not count on a "destination wedding specialist" to be as helpful as they seem...

We're in the middle of planning ours. Our budget is about 10 000, but realistically it'll probably end up being 12 000.
In our case a destination wedding was ideal because A) my FH has 2 jobs and I'm in grad school, so we don't have a lot of time to spend planning the details B) We live in Ontario and both our families live in Alberta, so either way there would have to be traveling and I didn't want to plan an Albertan wedding from Ontario C) We were already planning to invite close family and friends (max 30 people), and D) our families love all inclusives!!
So the circumstances were right for us, but there's certainly a lot of factors to consider. As the pp mentioned, you have to be prepared that some of your guests will not be able to afford it.
Have fun planning!

| Unless you are planning on paying for your guests you can do a DW for WAY less then $20K lol Given that an average resort will cost $1500-2000 per person and a wedding package cost $1000usd ( which seems like quite abit ) thats much less then your target. Like the pp mentioned that means you are asking your guests to pony up a grand or 2 for your wedding - some have no problem and will love the chance for a vacation while others will not attend. Make sure the people who MUST be there are ok with it before you book tho - disappointed tears are not a good way to start your wedding. Of course if you are planning on having a reception when you return then the costs will not be that much less - you still have to feed the guests ( which will be more then attend a DW ), rent a hall and everything else that goes along with a reception.

OMG Definately cheaper - and that's without even looking for deals! I read this article called 5 Money Saving Tips to Follow When Planning a Destination Wedding. Hotels right now are seriously looking for business and throw in so many extras like the meals, photographer, flowers, and so much more!
UltimateDestinationWedding.com also has tons of free info, advice and help! We are SERIOUSLY considering a destination wedding - sooo many advantages and we come back with a wedding tan! I understand my guest list will be small - but we'll have a great time with a weeks worth of memories!

| As a DW bride and a Travel Agent specializing in DW-the answer from me is yes and no! It certainly can be as cheap or expensive as you would like! It's not for everyone as most people to not pay for their guests! If you have alot of family that you know cannot afford it, and you really want them there, then maybe its no right for you. You can find some resorts that are reasonably inexpensive, and the wedding packages can be free, or not depending on the resort. For me, our DW is costing us about $6000-not bad HOWEVER-we are having a full blown reception when we get home which is running about $12000..so in my case-we are out more money by having a DW wedding. It all depends on what you want!
