Hi Ladies,

I wanted to start a yearly tradition at Christmas with my daughter (and future kids) that we make a new homemade Ornament, this year my DD will be 11 months at christmas so its a fun age but she is into everything and staying still is not something that happens for more then a few seconds, so I came up with this and I am so happy.

Santa Hand

First you need to trace your Little Ones hand, this took a couple attempts, I then cut it out and transfer it to card board so it was stiffer, then you have to make Salt Dough

2 cups of Flour
1/2 cup of Salt
1/2 cup or less of Water

make the dough like you would for a pie, and roll it out, I made my dough about 1.5 inch thick

then I took the cut out card board hand and with a knife I traced it very carefully out, I used a straw to create the hole at the top

the hands bake in a 220 degree oven for a hour, let them cool before painting

upclose

on the back I wrote my daughters name and the year for memories

I then did a thin coat of varathane on the back and the front to protect it, and last tied a nice ribbon at the top that you use to hang it on the tree.

I got some Necklace boxes at Solutions for gifts to the grandparents and added a sweet poem in the lid

Oh my gosh, that is the cutest thing ever!! Definitely going to have to steal this one, thanks for posting the instructions! You did an amazing job.

Last year DS was only 3.5 months, but we tried the snowman handprint ornament that has been posted on here a few times before. It was a challenge because he was so little, but really fun and they turned out so cute!

Love the Santa hand ornament!  I'm sure everyone will love receiving that as a Christmas gift!

I might have to try this with dd.

I love the Snowman ornament too but don't think dd would cooperate very well...lol.

I remembered the snowman ornament from last year but I figured their was no way I could get Jessie to sit still and not want to lick the paint on her hand, so I came up with the santa hand, the tracing takes a little time but once you get a good trace the rest is done by you

Cute ornaments!

I made the snowman handprint one for Roquelle's first Christmas, I don't have a picture though.

I made this for Melody's first Christmas (her sillhouette):

The back says "Melody's First Christmas 2011"

We did the snowman Christmas ornament. It wasn't easy either. My friend helped me out, but DS didn't want to open his hand, we also broke a few balls. They turned out great though

Yesterday we attempted to make the snowman handprint ornaments.

Epic fail. I could not get DS to keep his hand open and then when I tried to do it quick, it just came out as a big white blob on the ball.

Any tips to make it easier? He is 8 months old...I'm wondering if we will have to try when he is asleep?
